Raquel watched Santiago escort Alina inside his home. She did not see that he brought her there to allow her to meet with Bebo with the goal of helping him. She was outside in her car, thinking of how another rejection was a judgement on her value as a woman and a person.
Bebo wanted to find work and Santiago offered to hire him. They went to talk about it, bith Bebo telling Santiago this would be difficult because of differences between him and his father.
Lola looked at Alina, then at her brother. She suspected that something wasn't right.
Juan went to see Laura to confront her. She told him she didn't want any more photos from him. He was not pleased that she had been investigating him by asking questions about him in his neighborhood. She told him she had spoken with the last people who had seen Patricia Vargas alive. This irritated him and she irritated him further by asking whether he had killed her.
His calculated response was to begin unbuttoning her blouse and say “It's better we let the dead rest.” When he pushed the sides of her blouse aside and tried to kiss her she escaped, buttoned her blouse, and told him not to change the subject. She told him in no uncertain words that he was to stop sending photos or contacting her or she would have to tell her husband. “You won't like having the police come after you.”
His accusations of jealousy followed but Laura was almost unflappable. She accused him of seducing her so that she would “forget” about Patricia's death. As she watched his reaction she let him know that he was very wrong about this. She told him to leave or else, then walked away. It was perhaps foolhardy of her to turn her back on him, but he left.
Raquel went to the hospital to Damián's room. The nurse told her there had been no change, then left her alone. Raquel stared at Damián, then told him something that didn't wake him up.
“I bedded Santiago and I didn't do it for revenge. I did it because I'm in love with him. That's the most important thing in my life and ...I don't know. Was it like that for you and Carolina? No. No. It has nothing in common. Love at first sight? No.” She took off her coat. “It's your fault,” she said, ironically. “I'm afraid Santiago doesn't feel the same way. It's too important. He's not like that. He is sincere, he is loyal, and a great friend in return. Unconditional, but much more unconditional than his wife. For his family. Did you think about us? Or only about your desire? I can't let myself feel bad because I never denied you anything. But on the other hand what do I know? What do I do now? [???]”
She held back her tears as best she could. There was no reaction from Damián.
While Santiago prepared dinner, Lola asked him about Alina. As he explained he had gone to see her to arrange payment and to bring her to meet Bebo he realized that she was fishing for information about his love life.
Nicolás watched as Alina told Bebo she would help him achieve his dreams. Bebo laughed, saying he had no dreams anymore. Being in jail cured him of that because “in jail it's a luxury to have dreams. All you can do is hope, count the hours until you complete your sentence, and look inside as to how to change your life.”
“I do understand you, but you have to have the strength to leave that behind,” Alina said. She then put her hand on his knee. “You know you can count on me for everything you need.”
Nicolás noticed this because she clearly meant him to. Bebo excused himself to go to the bathroom and Nicolás quietly confronted Alina.
“What game are you playing?”
“What are you talking about?”
“You want to tell me? Why did you do that? Did you do that to bother me?”
She laughed.
“The world doesn't revolve around you, little boy,” she said. “It's best you learn that quickly.
He stared at her, as though seeing her for the first time.
Fernando and Cinthia were talking about his situation with Laura when her cell rang. Raquel wanted to talk to her. She went into another room to continue the conversation.
Later Bebo and Alina were leaving. She offered to drive him wherever he needed to go. He tried to decline the offer, saying he would get a cab. She told him it was no bother. The Álvarados said good night to their guests and went inside. Alina's cell began ringing. She told Bebo she had to take this call. He stepped away as she did.
“What do you want?” she said.
“I want to be with you,” said Nicolás.
“No.”
“You're leaving with Bebo?”
“This is the last time you will insinuate anything like this or you have no rights.”
“I want you.”
“You are my employee. That better be clear.”
She ended the call. Nico looked at his phone as Santiago came down the stairs.
“Nico, is everything alright with your boss?”
Nicolás couldn't answer his father.
Cinthia returned to the Becker house to an apologetic Raquel. She spologized in return, took responsibility for making a pass at Damián back in the day, saying it was the drugs that made her do it. She told Raquel she loved her. This seemed to make Raquel happy, but Cinthia did not look sincere. When Raquel backed up so that she could look at her face to face, Cinthia talked about how she was not worthy of any man in comparison to Raquel, she got the predictable answer. Raquel told her this was not true and further, that to live with the love of one's life isn't necessarily going to go as predicted.
She told her she had to value herself.
“But you have Santiago.”
Raquel admitted her feelings for Santiago, but also her uncertainty.
Lola went to Legato and Azucena started showing her around. Unfortunately the first person to appear in front of them was Andres. His predatory smile was strictly for Lola's benefit.
“Lesson Number Two,” said Azucena. “Stay away from that one.”
“Yes, I know.” Lola had turned away. Azucena seemed to know what she meant.
Federico approached Sabrina about studying at her house. She had other ideas, but agreed. He felt like he had somehow messed up.
Mia told Nicolás that her shrink said to ditch him. He shouted at her “Don't you realize I'm in love with you?” This got the attention of the other students and an “I told you so” from Federico.
After talking briefly with Nacho and Augustin at work, Santiago had to face Gabriela, who told him she had told Raquel that he only had eyes for her.
Raquel commented to Cinthia that she (Cin) had never been in love. Cinthia started to say that this was going to change, but when Raquel asked who the lucky man was she couldn't get out of the room fast enough. A sigh later Raquel called Santiago. She was a little ill at ease asking how things went with his lawyer. There was no awkwardness on his part when he said that things had gone well. Finally they agreed to see each other the next day. He seemed not to realize what was on her mind. She was not entirely reassured that Alina was not her competition.
The next morning Santiago confronted Nacho about what he knew about Carolina and why he didn't tell him. Nacho didn't want to upset him merely on the basis of what Augustin said he had overheard. Santiago felt betrayed because Nacho was his best friend.
Rafael was talking on his cell phone when Antonio arrived at the office. He watched him until he saw him go into someone else's office and close the door behind him. He ended the call and went into Antonio's office to look at his computer. An accusation was on the screen and he began reading. He heard Antonio's voice getting louder so he closed out of the document and got up. He claimed to have been waiting for him. Antonio dismissed the other man and closed the door. He demanded the DNA results on Benjamín. Rafael told him that there was a contamination problem. Antonio glanced at his computer screen and saw it was dark. He looked back at Rafael.
Rueda entered Miriam's office. She knew that Raquel had been in Damián's room in the hospital and she was angry. When she demanded to know what happened with the restraining order he gave her the news she didn't want to hear, that the judge could not be bribed. He had said that the only reason for a restraining order would be if Raquel were proven to be mentally ill. The further bad news for Miriam was that she did not have the primary right to remove Damián from the hospital. Raquel had that right and in her absence Damián's children did. Her own was secondary to theirs. She asked about the DNA test.
“Give me time; I'm working on it,” he said. “Sooner or later there will be results.”
“Good. If justice in this country won't help me, there are other methods.”
“What are you thinking about, Señora?”
Fernando arrived at the station where Rafael told him that Antonio was up in arms about the DNA test needing to be repeated. He asked whether he was working on another case.
“Yes. Police corruption.”
Rafael looked caught by surprise, but only for a moment. Fernando laughed.
“Relax; it was only a joke.”
Both laughed. But Fernando was deadly serious and Rafael knew it. They talked about a drug case but Fernando gave out no information. Rafael said he was going to the lab. Fernando stared after him.
Laura's news broadcast that night was about Patricia's death and the letter received by Lola Álvarado. She started raising doubts about whether this was suicide or something else like police corruption. She said that Patricia had a lover who was very powerful, which hinted at a coverup. She pointed out that this story is because “there are thousands like Patricia in the country, victims of power. And because this is related to the Becker case.”
Juan stalked Lola at Legato and found her talking in a friendly manner with Bebo. He didn't like this and before an argument could break out grabbed Lola by the arm and started leading her away from her second day at work.
The forensic med techs paid another visit to the Álvarado home to take more blood samples. Benjamín started crying, which caused Santiago to say that this was cruel and for them to stop tormenting them. Fernando apologized; he was clearly embarrassed. Santiago told them to find their own way out as he held the boy to comfort him.
Nicolás entered Alina's office without knocking. She didn't look up from her desk as she asked whether her secretary had given him his assignment and that she was too busy. He leaned over her desk and demanded to know whether she had boinked Bebo. She dodged the question and asked whether he would be jealous if she had boinked his father. This made him angry but before he could answer she backed him up against the wall saying that he had better not get jiggy with anyone else or she will make him sorry. This was followed by her forcefully removing his jacket. He obeyed by removing his shirt and this culminated in vertical sex against the wall in the corner.
Neither seemed to be thinking about the fact that it was still working hours and there were windows in the interior wall.
After he had driven her home, Lola argued with Juan about what he had done. Bebo had been a life-long friend, but Juan refused to accept this, demanding that she never see Bebo again. She finally went inside and slammed the gate in his face.
Santiago put Benjamín to bed and spoke with Nacho about Bebo. Lola came inside but did not talk about what had happened. She greeted Nacho, then told them she had a headache and was going to lie down. After this the two men talked about the burned car and the DNA test. Nacho said that he hoped that the test proved that Benjamín was Santiago's son and that he had a good lawyer on his side. Santiago agreed, but had a strange feeling about Alina. This surprised Nacho a little; he commented on Alina's beauty and said he should be careful.
Cinthia told Fernando she wanted to get in good with her sister. He told her that she worked for him now and he needed all the proof she could get him against Rafael, which included recordings. She had to get the necessary proof or she would end up getting arrested. He did not know that Rafael was watching them.
Miriam went into Damián's hospital room and used the IV rack to prevent the sliding door from being opened. She went to the bed and looked at him.
“My son, son of my life. You don't deserve this irony. No, no. Nothing in this life is waiting for you. I always wanted the best.” The nurse who had let Raquel in earlier walked by and saw her. “It would be better if you left in peace.” She reached for the breathing tube. The nurse knocked on the window.
“Señora, Señora, please open the door!” she said.
Miriam leaned over Damián and kissed his hair. Other hospital personnel came and began yelling to her to open the door. Raquel arrived in time to see Miriam pull out the tube from the mouthpiece and reach for the pillow. Miriam removed the pillow and put it over Damián's face. Another nurse pulled Raquel away from the window.
